If you are a fan of Ryoma Sakamoto, Teradaya Inn in Fushimi ward, Kyoto, is a place you shouldn't miss. In March 1866, Ryoma was surrounded by over 100 policemen dispatched by the Tokugawa Shogunate. He was in a meeting here with his comrade revolutionaries. Ms. Oryo, who later became his wife, ran from a bathroom naked to the 2nd floor where Ryoma was, to inform him of the coming danger....how dramatic! He was saved by a samurai squad of Satsuma (present day Kagoshima), and survived the attack! For access information please refer to my other article, Searching for Ryoma Sakamoto.

Former site of Tosa (present day Kochi prefecture) Clan House in Kyoto. As Ryoma was a samurai from Tosa, he frequented the place when he was in Kyoto
Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum. Teradaya Inn is located near the district where there are many Sake breweries
This is Teradaya Inn!
It looks very old, but the original inn was burnt down during the Battle of Toba-Fushimi, which was fought between the Tokugawa Shogunate and the Revolutionary Hans in 1868
This sign explains the event which took place here as well. Nine samurai of Satsuma (present day Kagoshima) were killed by their colleagues in Teradaya Inn. The Lord of Satsuma at the time was still pro-Tokugawa Shogunate, and thus liquidated the rebels in his domain who tried to overthrow the Tokugawa Shogunate to reform Japan
Neighborhood of Teradaya Inn. Looks like Japan of yesteryear!
