I know Japan is absolutely full of great bakeries, but Pain Pati in Machida is my latest favorite. Their baked goodies are fantastic, and very reasonably priced. I especially recommend the takana, which is a specialty bread originating in Nagano Prefecture with a delicious vegetable filling of chopped komatsuna, mustard flavored greens. An added bonus is that if you choose to enjoy your purchases on the attractive terrace outside the store, you can wash them down with a free cup of coffee! They usually play Beatles John Lennon music in the background - which is fine with me. While you're at it, be on the look out for the cute cat bus that goes past here on weekdays!

There are magazines for customers to read
Pain Pati has a small terrace in front of the store where customers can enjoy their delicious breads and buns
Heaters mean the terrace is probably quite cosy even in Winter
Pain Pati's sign is red, white and blue, like the French flag
A Spiderman mask hangs next to the door
Delicious baked goodies!
Walnut bread roll, blueberry custard tart, special Nagano bread with greens, and the best cream donut I've ever eaten (it had been dipped in crunchy cornflaked before cooking)
Takana - packed full of delicious greens (komatsuna, I think)
Can you see E.T. in the corner?
If the tables are full you can use one of these red benches
